Baby 10 weeks
A 10-week-old baby may start to develop a more regular daily rhythm and usually sleeps more at night than during the day. You may also start to see a pattern in how often your baby wants to eat and how their waking hours are distributed throughout the day. It is quite common to sleep more in the morning and then be awake for several hours in the afternoon and evening – but of course this varies from child to child. How quickly your baby finds their routine is a combination of their personality and temperament, what everyday life looks like and how important it is for you as a parent to create routines. Most little ones like regularity and will develop some kind of predictable rhythm during the day, but some babies are the opposite, very changeable and find it much harder to appreciate routines – it's simply a question of how they are wired. Your baby's personality will probably influence your approach to routines. And how you are will in turn affect your baby's habits.
Parent
Be careful with your back now that the baby is getting heavier. It is very important to bend your legs (and not your back!) when lifting. Another thing to remember is your posture when carrying and feeding your baby, so that you don't sit too crookedly or slumped. It is especially important for those who have been carrying their baby to try to get rid of their pregnancy swayback, which can otherwise cause back problems. It can be good to try to give yourself things that are good for your back, such as massage, stretching, heat and touch. If there are two of you, a mutual massage after a long day can be a way to get closer to each other and relax your muscles. Our feel-good hormones are stimulated by touch, and they not only help the body but also make us feel better mentally and emotionally. Relaxing for a while with a gentle neck massage or a cosy foot massage on the sofa can give you new energy to continue caring for your little baby.
