Week 12

Baby 12 weeks

A little friend

A three-month-old baby is a cuddly little creature who can giggle with laughter and has developed the ability to show in several different ways what is wrong when something doesn't feel right. The baby can lie in a baby gym and reach for toys, and some may have already started turning from their stomach to their back (although for most it will take a while longer). During these three months, their personality has probably started to emerge – you may be able to see certain traits that are unique to your child and how they are similar to and different from other children of the same age. After three months together, you and your little one have probably become attached to each other. Now you belong together in your own little family.

Life falls into place

When their baby reaches three months old, many parents feel that everyday life is starting to fall into place a little more and that the intense pressure of the first few months of parenthood is beginning to ease slightly. Perhaps your baby is now able to lie on a blanket on the floor for a while while you have a cup of coffee – those kinds of short, little breaks to catch your breath often make a big difference in life. Your baby is no longer as newborn and fragile, but is starting to emerge more clearly as a little person with personality traits, habits and desires. It's actually incredible how much communication you can have with someone who can't talk yet! By now, you probably know most of what your child is feeling and how they are doing, and that knowledge usually makes parenting more relaxed.
